About This Event
The BEYOND Artist Collective is proud to announce the opening of the 'BEYOND' Interactive, Immersive Art Experience in Center Ithaca on the Commons at 171 East State St. This participatory exhibit is appropriate for all ages, and is offered to the public on a free/by-donation basis. It began in late 2019 with an Artist in Community Grant from the Community Arts Partnership to the lead artists Doug Shire and Laurence Clarkberg of Ithaca. After a long pandemic-related delay, the group is thrilled at the community's receptiveness to this unique, pop-up art experience; so far, where over 2000 participants have viewed the space in the last ten days to visitors' delight. As they enter, guests step through a portal into another, magical world: an infinite neon forest, black light art, interactive sound and light installations, games, a skeleton oracle, and an augmented reality sandbox beckon. The flagship installation, 'Sparky the Unicorn,' is a large 12-foot high rideable sculpture visible from the Commons - it is covered by over 6000 LEDs , and the head can be manipulated by the rider! Over 15 diverse local artists have contributed works to the exhibit, which will be open daily through mid-September from 4:30-8:30 PM, with extended hours on weekends. The public is invited to go BEYOND!
