About This Event
"A Midsummer Night's Musicale," a new theatrical production with lyrics by Briel Felton, music by John Bunge, and choreography by Samantha Johnson, will be performed on the Midsummer Stage in Ithaca's Stewart Park on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 4 pm and again at 5:30 pm, as part of the Park's Centennial celebration. Admission is free and open to the public, please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Running time is about 40 minutes, rain date is July 31.
The players are The Merry Wanderers: singers Syona Ayyankeril, Marissa Plati and Amber Ward; musicians John Greenly (clarinet), William Hurley (viola), and John Bunge (banjo). The dancers are three dedicated contemporary ballet and jazz students, ages 9-15, from the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts: Abby Arco, Zafira Ferrari and Maren Friedman. The show's four songs and four dances re-interpret the classic Shakespeare play from a modern perspective: the music is at once romantic and contemporary, across a wide range of moods, with memorable songs professionally performed.
